Woman nabbed for stealing wristwatch at RGIA
Hyderabad: A passenger travelling from Hyderabad to Delhi reported that that his wristwatch worth 20,000 went missing during baggage scanning at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). On his complaint, CISF personnel checked the CCTV cameras and identified that a tray operator had stolen the watch. A police case was registered and the watch was returned to the passenger.On Wednesday morning, a CISF personnel working at the airport lodged a complaint with the RGIA police alleging that at around 10.06 pm on Tuesday, a passenger, Md Mustafa Shaik, who was scheduled to travel from Hyderabad to Delhi on an Air India flight, approached the CISF staff. Mustafa informed the CISF officials that his wristwatch had gone missing at the Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) during the baggage scanning process and lodged a formal complaint.Following the complaint, CISF personnel reviewed CCTV footage and questioned the staff and the supervisor on duty. During the inquiry, CISF team found that a woman tray operator, N Swathi, had picked up the wristwatch and kept it in her pocket while handling trays at the screening point.
During the probe, the watch was recovered from a washroom at the aeroplaza of RGIA, and was subsequently handed over to the passenger at the boarding gate before his departure. CISF personnel also handed over the accused to the RGIA police for further investigation. A case was registered under Section 305(a) (theft in a building, tent or vessle) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police issued a notice to the accused as per law, asking her to appear for questioning when summoned.
